How to plan app changes in Claude or ChatGPT, and get them shipped
Lots of people already plan their app in Claude or ChatGPT. You describe a problem, the chat asks good questions, and twenty minutes later you know exactly what to build. Then the plan sits there. Someone still has to copy it out, turn it into tasks, build it, test it and ship it.
The chat is the easy part to keep. Here's how to make the rest happen too.
Why chat plans get stuck
- The chat doesn't know your app, so you explain it from scratch every time.
- It suggests things you already have, or ideas you turned down last month.
- The plan lives in one long conversation that nobody reads again.
- Building and shipping is a separate job, and it waits for you to have time.
1. Start the chat with what the app is for
Give the chat a short paragraph: who uses the app and what it should do for them. A plan that knows the goal stays small and to the point. One that doesn't tends to grow into a rewrite.
2. Talk the feature through before you ask for it
Say what you want and why. Then let the chat ask questions: who is it for, what happens when something goes wrong, what's the smallest version that would help. Most of the value is in those answers, not in the first idea.
3. End with small tasks you agree to
Ask the chat to split the plan into tasks you could explain in two sentences each. "Add sharing" is hard to get right. "Add a Copy link button to each report" is easy. Read them, change what's wrong, and keep only the ones you'd approve.
4. Send the tasks somewhere that builds them
This is where NimbleHQ comes in. It has an MCP server, the standard way AI apps connect to other tools. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Claude Code once, and the chat can read your project first: its Goal, what it does today, what it has shipped and the ideas you turned down. So it plans from where your app really is.
When you agree on a task, the chat adds it to NimbleHQ. A coding agent picks it up, builds it in your own repository, runs the tests and ships it to your live app. If something is unclear, it asks you one plain question instead of guessing.
5. Check what shipped, and plan the next thing
One email each morning says what shipped, what's stuck and which ideas are waiting. When you want to plan again, open a chat. It already knows what changed since last time, so you pick up where you left off.
